About the Project

Phase 1: StoryCorps partnership

The StoryCorps Door-to-Door program will visit Wayne County for one full day to record the stories of 6-12 selected storytellers.  Girls Inc. of Wayne County will select the storytellers with a focus on celebrating and commemorating 40 years of service to girls.  The recordings of these stories will be featured online through this website, and may be distributed to other local media outlets for sharing.  There will be a premiere event (date TBD) highlighting the “What Is Your Story Wayne County” project, hosted by Girls Inc. that will showcase the recordings and invite other storytellers, volunteers and partners to participate in Phase II.

Phase 2: What Is Your Story Wayne County

As knowledge and enthusiasm builds for the StoryCorps model, trained volunteers throughout Wayne County will be ready to record unlimited stories.  The project will have a coordinator to ready volunteers and connect them to interested agencies and individuals at the heart of communities, as well as at community gatherings.  These volunteers will be trained to properly use equipment to capture professional quality recordings of their storytellers.  The results of the project will continue to be made available on this website and through other community media partners.  Volunteers will share their recording, interviewing and editing knowledge through ongoing trainings, including with girls at Girls Inc.
